Quake gets enhanced re-release for modern platforms for 25th anniversary

As Quake celebrates its 25th anniversary, it’s getting an enhanced re-release which will be available for modern platforms.

With the legendary franchise already spanning 25 years, it’s time to experience the multiplayer glory once more. There’s a lot to like about the re-release, which is an enhanced remaster of the 1996 game and is now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Switch. It’s also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with backward compatibility, where free upgrades will make it run at 4K resolution.

People who decide to purchase the remaster will be getting bang for their buck. The package includes the original 1996 Quake and both of its expansions, The scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity. Furthermore they’ll get the expansions which were created by developer Machine Games, Dimensions of the Past and the new Dimension of the Machine. You can read up on it here. When it comes to multiplayer, there’ll be online and local split-screen options, which includes co-op support for Quake’s solo campaign and the expansions.

If you’re a PC player that already owns the game on Steam or Bethesda.net you’ll be getting the enhanced upgrade for free. You should automatically receive the new version with a free download. Bethesda goes on to welcome both veterans and players who are new to the franchise. “Whether you’re a newcomer taking your first step through the Slipgate or a veteran looking to relive one of gaming’s most influential shooters, there’s no better time than right now to experience the re-release of Quake.”
